Rachel Howie has over 15 years of experience practicing as counsel in domestic and international arbitrations and litigation. She is a partner at Dentons Canada LLP where she is the co-lead of the national Litigation and Dispute Resolution group and the national ADR and Arbitration group. Her practice as counsel is primarily focused on disputes in the energy, mining and natural resources industries. A recognized leader in arbitration, Rachel currently serves as a Vice-Chair on the ICC Commission on Arbitration & ADR Steering Committee and as a director for the Western Canada Commercial Arbitration Society.

Rachel has experience in arbitrations involving mining, oil & gas (upstream and midstream) and electricity industry disputes and agreements across Canada and in South America, Central Asia and South-East Asia under a variety of institutional rules including ICC, VanIAC and ICSID, and in ad hoc proceedings. Rachel also has experience in arbitrations under expedited proceedings and those involving shareholder disputes, share valuation, and commercial real estate agreements.

Rachel is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a listed arbitrator on the rosters of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), Vancouver International Arbitration Centre (VanIAC), and ADR Institute of Canada (ADRIC). In her growing arbitrator practice, Rachel has been appointed sole arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations, both ad hoc and institutional. She has also completed training in Mediating the Litigated Case from the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.

A frequent author and speaker on matters of domestic and international arbitration, Rachel is highly regarded for her attention to detail and ability to also take a “big-picture” view.
